The USA was founded on the concept of seperation of church and state.

A dear childhood friend posted to FB about Donald Trump 2016 electoral college win and added Christian bible verses. Then when he received comments which where hostile, he then said he would delete post because is post was about “our … wonderful God” and was not political.

I responded:

In love I would ask you to reread your posts – it seems that you are disrespecting  that this country is founded on the principle of separation of church and state : deleting comment that don’t include what you believe as about your concept of your “amazing  and wonderful God.” … this election is over, the fear which has gripped so many Americans is not about not trusting in God – it’s not trusting that Christians can separate religious law & christian doctrine from others rights to not be Christian.

The phrase “separation of church and state” is generally traced to a January 1, 1802 letter by Thomas Jefferson, addressed to the Danbury Baptist Association in Connecticut, and published in a Massachusetts newspaper. Jefferson wrote,

“I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should ‘make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,’ thus building a wall of separation between Church & State.”[1]

Ironic that “Building a wall” is right there!
